As Myanmar quickly adopts mobile phones and the internet, lack of digital literacy and knowledge of online safety poses risk of cyberbullying, hate speech, fake news and other online frauds to Myanmar internet users including children and youths.
ATOM Myanmar believed in bringing Internet to all in a safe and responsible way and launched child online safety programmes since 2016 through school outreach programs and by collaborating with expert organizations and providing parents and teachers the tools to discuss safer use of internet with children. From 2016 June to 2019 June, the program successfully trained over 450,000 students through school outreach program.
In 2019 August ATOM Myanmar launched Digital Literacy, Online Safety and Resilience programme by collaboration with Plan International and with strong support from Ministry of Education. Through this program students and youths aged between 10 to 18 in all states and regions of Myanmar were aimed to develop their digital skills. The two-year program also aimed to cooperate with the Ministry of education to integrate online safety digital modules into the national education curriculum to prepare youth for a digital Myanmar.
