Author: Kyaw Min Thein, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at ATOM

At ATOM, we prioritise our people, recognising them as the driving force behind our business's success. As the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), my mission is to foster vitality and productivity through the strategic management of our human capital. I wear many hats, overseeing crucial functions such as talent acquisition, employee development, performance management, and fostering a workplace culture that aligns with our company’s values and goals.  In this article, I’m taking you through my typical workday at ATOM.

8:30am: Morning Start

Arrive at the office on time. Mornings are about setting the tone for the day ahead. A cup of tea and a glance at the day’s schedule – the day begins with simple pleasures. I check emails and respond to any urgent matters.

9:00am: Daily Catch Ups

Morning meeting with relevant team leads within the HR department to discuss ongoing projects and initiatives. Our discussions focus on aligning current priorities and HR strategies to overall business goals. I also take this time to evaluate the productivity and efficiency of our HR functions, explore ways to enhance operations such as system upgrades and process optimisation, and assess feedback regarding HR policies and procedures.

11:00am: Review Talent Acquisition Strategy

We continually refine our recruitment strategies and explore employer branding initiatives to attract diverse and top-tier talent. I meet with the recruitment team regularly to discuss job openings, candidate pipelines, and any challenges. I sometimes sit in interviews to evaluate our recruitment and selection processes.

1:30pm: Multitasking Moments

The middle of the day is mainly for multitasking. I would be clearing emails, reviewing plans, and sometimes addressing any employee-related matters that require my attention. It is one of our priorities to ensure workplace harmony and maximise employee satisfaction. With this, I also look into our compensation and benefits, and work with my team to propose new programmes or perks to retain our talents.

3:00pm: Plan Training and Development Initiatives

To ensure that ATOM always strives towards our "Beyond Better’ vision, we identify skill gaps within the organisation and promote continuous learning. Together with the training and development team, we review ongoing programmes and initiatives, assessing their effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement.

4:30pm: Employee Engagement and Culture Building

I hold regular meetings with the employee engagement team and relevant department heads to discuss upcoming initiatives and events to foster a positive organisational culture. I also review the results of employee surveys and plan action items to address feedback. This guides our strategies to enhance organisational culture and employee morale.

Being a CHRO at ATOM is a journey of passion, purpose and people. I thrive in the responsibility of creating an environment where our employees can excel and reach their full potential. This means making sure that employees have the resources they need to succeed, that they are treated with respect, and that they have a voice in the organisation. It also means being a strategic partner to the CEO and other executives, helping to drive the organisation's success through the power of its people.

We’re always looking for talents to join our team.
