Yangon, Myanmar, 19 September 2024 – ATOM has announced a donation of MMK 1 billion (1,000,000,000 Kyats) to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for communities affected by the recent floods in Myanmar. This contribution reflects ATOM’s ongoing commitment to providing aid to the communities in Myanmar most in need during critical times.

This significant contribution will support essential relief efforts in response to the devastation caused due to torrential rains brought by Typhoon Yagi, which has displaced thousands and severely damaged homes and infrastructure across several regions in Myanmar. ATOM will work closely with local organisations and authorities to ensure that the funds are distributed effectively and efficiently.

“We are deeply saddened by the impact of the floods and are determined to stand by the people who have been impacted. With our contribution of MMK 1 billion to relief efforts, we aim to make a significant impact on both the immediate needs and long-term recovery and resilience of the affected regions. ATOM stands with Myanmar during this difficult time,” said Mr. Ahmad Abdallah, CEO of ATOM.

Healthcare Hotline for Flood-Affected Communities

In addition to the financial contribution, ATOM is extending access to healthcare services for flood-affected individuals. Since 2022, ATOM has been offering free healthcare consultations through its 7887 hotline to customers across Myanmar. By calling 7887, ATOM customers can receive 24/7 professional medical advice from anywhere in the country. This service addresses both the immediate and long-term health needs of flood victims, including injuries, infections, and mental health challenges.

"အက်တမ်နှင့်အတူနှစ်ဆလှူ" (Double the Donation with ATOM)

ATOM has also launched a programme named အက်တမ်နှင့်အတူနှစ်ဆလှူ (Double the Donation with ATOM) to further support the relief efforts and restoration of flood-affected areas. Starting from 18 September 2024, customers can contribute towards flood relief efforts by donating any amount using their phone balance via SMS to 6666. ATOM will then match each donation, effectively doubling the total contributions.

“We recognise the immense challenges faced by flood-affected communities, and we are determined to do our part to help them during this time. In addition to our donation of MMK 1 billion, we are inviting our customers to join us in supporting the recovery efforts. Every contribution makes a difference, and ATOM will double the value of every customer donation through SMS to ensure maximum impact,” said U Thein Hoke, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of ATOM.

As announced on 16 September 2024, ATOM is providing 500 minutes of free voice calls and 500 free SMS to its customers in affected areas, ensuring they can stay connected with loved ones and access critical support. The offer of free services will be extended for three additional days (300 minutes of voice calls and 300 SMS) from 20 September to 22 September 2024.

ATOM's community support activities are conducted under the banner of "ATOM WITH THE HEART," focusing on three pillars: Advancing Life & Education, Digitalisation of Education & Health, and Humanitarian Care & Support. Since June 2022, ATOM has contributed nearly MMK 4 billion to various causes aligned with these pillars, positively impacting the lives of over 500,000 individuals across Myanmar.

On 12 August 2024, ATOM announced the delivery of essential items valued at MMK 100 million (100,000,000 Kyats) to provide immediate relief to thousands of people in Yangon and Bago regions, and Hpa-An, the capital of Kayin State, who were affected by severe flooding. These relief packages were distributed to over 2,000 households, benefiting over 10,000 flood victims.
